Bright electro-galvanized wire: Zinc only physically adheres to steel without metallurgical reaction, no alloy transition layer. Zinc coating tears and peels off during bending.
1. Core Cause: Complete Zinc-iron Alloy Bonding Layer Makes All The Difference
- Bright electro-galvanized wire: Zinc only physically adheres to steel without metallurgical reaction, no alloy transition layer. Zinc coating tears and peels off during bending.
- Low-speed simplified hot-dipped wire: Insufficient dipping time creates discontinuous brittle alloy layer, coating detaches under tension.
- Standard constant-temperature hot-dipped wire: Sufficient molten zinc immersion forms integrated tough zinc-iron alloy layer to buffer bending stress, keeping coating intact without powder shedding.
2. Incomplete Pre-treatment Causes Weak Coating Adhesion
Skipped degreasing, improper pickling or undried flux creates isolation barriers, air bubbles and ash layers between steel and zinc. The coating only floats on impurities and peels off when twisted.
3. Harsh Rapid Quenching Creates Hidden Microcracks Inside Coating
Zinc and steel have different thermal expansion rates. Direct cold water quenching leaves massive internal stress and invisible cracks inside coating, which expand and split zinc film during bending. Qualified wire adopts gradient slow cooling to eliminate stress synchronously.
4. Poor Annealing Makes Steel Brittle And Tears Zinc Layer
Under-annealed rigid wire retains drawing residual stress. Severe deformation during bending rips thin zinc coating apart. Fully annealed flexible wire deforms gently with synchronous zinc extension.
5. Uneven Coating & Excess Zinc Lumps Trigger Local Peeling
Unstable wire feeding leads to thick zinc buildup with concentrated internal stress, cracking easily when bent.
Simple Bending Test Standard
Fold wire tightly three times:
- Massive zinc powder & cracked coating = defective craft with peeling risk;
- Smooth intact bending surface = full-process qualified wire for weaving and outdoor shaping.
